Martin Allen is at it again at Chesterfield
Chesterfield boss Martin Allen has won the internet once again with another original announcement on the club’s official website.
The 52-year-old has taken control of Chesterfield’s press releases since joining the club in May and a statement regarding Laurence Maguire, who is the younger brother of England and Leicester centre-back Harry, is the latest instalment from the former Barnet manager.
The statement on chesterfield-fc.co.uk read: “Laurence Maguire has unfortunately picked up Russian ‘flu’, which is obviously quite disappointing.
“I’ve had a word with him this morning and told him that this afternoon he’s got to fly out to Russia to have some medical tests. He’s got to be back here for training on Monday.
“The bad news is the fact that he’s got Russian ‘flu. The good news is that he’s going to fly to Russia to see his brother play for England in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.”
Previously, Allen referred to new signing Michael Nelson as “very old with great experience and good knowledge”, and said of fellow new recruit goalkeeper Shwan Jalal: “He knows what it takes to be a champion.”
The Spireites boss has also rearranged a pre-season friendly at Nuneaton in order to watch his wife do a swim for charity.
