Two petrol engines will be available for the Impreza — a 1.6-litre at the car’s launch, and a 2.0-litre unit that will join the range at a later date. No performances figures have yet been announced.

The 1.6-litre engine produces 113bhp and 150Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre engine develops 154bhp and 196Nm of torque. Both units will be coupled to the new CVT gearbox, which Subaru says is the first to be optimised for all-wheel drive use.

Thanks to a 25mm longer and 35mm wider wheelbase, the new Impreza has a larger cabin and 10 litres of extra boot space compared to the outgoing model.

Inside the car, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features. A multi-function display also sits on the dashboard, providing the driver with key vehicle information.

As for the exterior of the car, the core design of the outgoing Impreza model has been retained, but changes have been made to create a “tougher, more dynamic” look. These include a revised grille and headlights, as well as sharper styling towards the rear of the car.UK order books for the new Subaru Impreza will open late 2017, however, pricing is yet to be confirmed.
