The snap vote in the country’s parliament came only days after Chancellor Angela Merkel changed her longstanding position.
On Monday she decided that politicians could take up the issue as a “question of conscience”, meaning members of her conservative coalition – which has been against same-sex marriage – were freed to vote individually.
Bravo, thank you and congratulations #Germany! In GAY we trust! #LoveIsLove

Members of the Bundestag in Berlin voted 393 in favour of legalising “marriage for everybody”, with 226 against and four abstentions.
Merkel was among those who voted against, saying she believes the country’s law sees marriage as between a man and a woman. But she said that the opposite view must be respected.
Fantastic that Germany has voted to allow #GayMarriage!! A positive step, but a real shame Angela Merkel voted against it! #LGBT #Pride2017

But she was the reason, the stone started actually rolling.
