Venues and businesses across London donated a share of their profits to the Red Cross on Saturday evening as part of an initiative to show defiance and raise money following the terror attack in London Bridge last weekend.

A Night for London, organised by the Red Cross and backed by Borough Market encourages businesses to donate profits from one drink or meal on their menus to the British Red Cross UK Solidarity Fund. The fund will go towards helping victims of terror attacks in need anywhere in the UK.

Londoners tweeted about #NightForLondon from a variety of venues, both near the site of the attack last week and further afield, showing their meals, full glasses and surroundings.

Donald Hyslop, chair of trustees at Borough Market said: “At Borough Market, we believe that the cooking and sharing of food has the power to unite people like nothing else, so for Londoners to be able to show their support for the victims and their families by meeting up to enjoy a meal and a drink will offer a forceful reminder to those who sought to divide us.

“By backing the Red Cross’s Saturday Night for London, we can all play our part. Last Saturday night ended horribly. Let’s ensure that this Saturday night brings at least a little solace.”

Even those staying in for the night were able to get involved, as Deliveroo promised to donate £1 from every London order to the fund. The Vodafone Foundation has committed to matching donations made up to a value of £100,000.
