David Dimbleby was perplexed while hosting the BBC election broadcast – by a fly trapped in the television studio.

As news broke that the UK could be heading for a hung parliament, the stalwart political journalist became confounded by the unwelcome creature, which he said had been buzzing around for days.Breaking off mid-sentence, Dimbleby said: “There’s a fly in this studio which is rather irritating me: we’ve been trying to get rid of it for the last three days but it’s still coming round.”His annoyance about the sound quality from count broadcasts was also noted by those watching at home.

For many, the episode proved to be the defining moment of the evening.

It could be a long night for poor David.
