Women have been sharing pictures of their shoes on polling day to encourage others to vote.
The initiative has been encouraged by Women’s March London, under the hashtag #VotingShoes, to inspire women to use their right to vote.
In January we asked you to send pix of your #MarchingShoes
For #GE2017 send in pix of your #VotingShoes

“Your vote is your voice and we’re hoping women will come out today and be heard,” said Women’s March London. “Women have had voting rights for less than 100 years, we have no intention of wasting them.”
I bloody love voting. My great grandmother went to Holloway so I could do this ???? #GE2017 #TurnUp #Vote2017 #votesforwomen #VotingShoes pic.twitter.com/wMY2Qo5TYg

The Women’s March movement was created in response to the election of US President Donald Trump, as women came out in numbers to protest on January 21 – the first day of his presidency.Trump’s election was met with scorn by women’s rights movements, who noted a series of sexist statements made by the business mogul.
“The energy and determination that brought millions of women out worldwide on January 21 to protest for equality, dignity and justice has continued to grow,” said Women’s March London. “More women are becoming politically engaged than ever before.” In January, people were asked to send pictures of their #MarchingShoes, receiving a great response – and the movement’s voting initiative has also proved popular.
