Move over covfefe, James Comey has won the internet with 'lordy'

It’s not everyday you hear the word “lordy” used during a Senate hearing.

So when former FBI director James Comey uttered the word during his Capitol Hill testimony about his interaction with the US president, the internet thought Donald Trump’s accidentally tweeted word ‘covfefe’ had a new rival.

Comey told senators: “Lordy, I hope there are tapes,” in referring to his meetings with Trump.The term quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, as former New York City US attorney Preet Bharara, who was also fired by Trump, echoed Comey’s statement.

Captain America actor Chris Evans quickly weighed in.

For those unaccustomed to hearing the word, dictionary maker Merriam-Webster tweeted the definition as “used to express surprise or strength of feeling”.
