In probably the most mesmerising thing you’ll see all day: an Egyptian tortoise takes on a selection of summer berries.
While the reptile demolished a strawberry three times the size of its head, it fared less well with the humble raspberry.
The creature is one of 12 Egyptian tortoises being exhibited once again at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, after they were displaced following a fire which destroyed their home last December.
While the zoo is celebrating the return of the munching tortoises, it also aims to shed light on the species’ plight.
The highly-endangered tortoise, native to the Middle East and northeast Africa, is actually extinct in the country it was named after, but the zoo’s reptile expert Jennifer Pramuk says it’s not too late to save the reptile.
She said: “People of all ages can do some very practical things in our everyday lives to help these special animals.
“From clean gardening at home and not releasing unwanted pets or animals into wild habitat to visiting the zoo to help support field conservation and limiting plastic use can all have a huge impact on these animals and all wildlife.”
