Who’s had a good day?
London’s Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan won the backing of an unlikely friend in Theresa May today, who stated “I think Sadiq is doing an excellent job” in response to the London Bridge terror attack on Saturday night.
May said she had been working closely with the Mayor, who had attended COBRA meetings alongside security officials and members of the Cabinet in the wake of recent attacks.
Khan has also gathered widespread support for his strong condemnation of the attackers and his pledge to ensure London continues to operate as usual in the aftermath of the atrocity.
Who’s had a bad day?
Theresa May had a tough start to the day, as David Cameron’s former strategy adviser Steve Hilton tweeted to say the Prime Minister “should be resigning not seeking re-election” over “security failures” in light of the Westminster, Manchester and London Bridge terrorist attacks.
When ITV News then raised the comments with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn a few hours later, Corbyn said he backed the remarks due to police cuts during May’s tenure as home secretary.
The row was exacerbated further when Culture Secretary Karen Bradley refused to answer a question by Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan over the number of armed police since 2010.
