Today is the final day you can register to vote in the General Election – and with control of the country at stake there are plenty of people wanting to remind those who can to do so.

Much of this encouragement is aimed at young people. Why? Well, according to statistics form Ipsos Mori just 43% of 18 to 24-year-olds voted in the 2015 election, compared with 78% of those aged 65 or over.

This vast gap between young and old voters has grown rapidly over the past few decades, with 63% of 18 to 24-year-olds voting in the 1992 election in comparison with a relatively unchanged amount of votes form older people. A diminished young people’s vote could decide the election, and many public figures have used their position to urge the younger generation to take action.

If there’s one message to be gleaned from all of this then, it’s that everyone wants you to register. If you haven’t done so already, click here. And if you don’t, well, you’re going to have to answer to this person.

A fate not worth thinking about…
