Surprised music fans at the Wirral Live music festival have taken to Twitter to share the moment Jeremy Corbyn rocked up on stage.

Video footage shows Corbyn make a speech in front of a reported 20,000 people who were waiting for the headline set by the Libertines.

As the crowds sang “Jezza, Jezza” and “Oh, Jeremy Corbyn”, the Labour leader reiterated the policy of making Premier League clubs invest 5% of their income into grassroots football.A fair few Twitter users seem to think it was a pretty clever move by Corbyn to make the gig his latest stop on the campaign trail.

The rumours had been flying around on Twitter before the festival that he would be rocking up on stage, so it’s no surprise really that the crowds sound so excited when it happened for real.

And what has Corbyn got to say about his appearance at the gig?

He shared a picture and video, showing the crowds’ reaction and snippets of his speech, and wrote: “Great to speak at Prenton Park to this incredible crowd about Labour’s transformational manifesto that will deliver #ForTheMany.”

Seems like he had a great time…
