A rumour Avril Lavigne was replaced by a lookalike has started a rather unique internet trend

Who else may really be an impostor in disguise?
Who else may really be an impostor in disguise? Who else may really be an impostor in disguise?

There’s a conspiracy theory circulating that Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne is dead and was replaced by a lookalike.

“So what” you’re probably wondering, the internet is filled with conspiracies. However, not all of them receive over 110,000 retweets on Twitter just days since being posted.

Naturally it would seem unreasonable to believe the story that Lavigne, now 32, is actually a clone of someone who died in 2003. And yet, the explanation from the Twitter user – which includes analysis of Lavigne’s jawline, fashion style and skin – has proved hugely popular.

It’s also captured the public’s imagination, with some wondering – who else might have been replaced by a lookalike? Here, we take a look at some of their most inventive suggestions…

1. Bob the Builder

2. Margaret Thatcher

3. Mr Tayto

4. Dora the Explorer

5. James Kirk (Star Trek)

6. This hamster

7. Scooby Doo

8. Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)

9. Spongebob Squarepants

What a time to be alive. Or should that be “replaced by a lookalike”?
