Theresa May has appeared for a highly personal interview on the BBC’s The One Show with her husband Philip – and it’s the Prime Minister’s views on taking the bins out which have really caused a stir amongst the public.
On Twitter there was some anticipation for the interview before the show began – even Number 10′s own Larry the Cat was ready with a zinger.

That is of course an unofficial parody account for Downing Street’s chief mouser – Larry prefers Facebook, we think. For some the drama really did begin early though, when the show was preceded by a party political broadcast by the Labour Party.

The Conservative leader’s appearance is the first in a series on the show which will include six other party leaders – and we’ll have to wait and see if a Tory broadcast precedes Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s interview.
While others couldn’t help but remember past Conservative leaders who have been guests on The One Show. In 2011 host Matt Baker asked David Cameron “how on Earth” he slept at night.
Remember when matt baker asked Cameron how he slept at night. Cmon give me that again tonight #TheOneShow

There wasn’t any of that this time though. A key part to May’s interview with presenters Baker and Alex Jones was discussion of her marriage – and not all viewers were happy with her comments on taking the bins out. We’re not talking about bin-taking technique of course, but after Philip said that job was part of his role in the relationship, May added that “there’s boy jobs and girl jobs”.
Theresa May on the One Show: "There's boy jobs and girl jobs"

Theresa May's first words on BBC's The One Show were about boys jobs and girls jobs within the domestic sphere, sexism is rife #TheOneShow

And others still needed some clarification.
Hi @theresa_may, can you help? I'm a woman, I live with my girlfriend. Which one of us should put the bins out? (a 'boy job'). #TheOneShow

Other talking points people picked up on included when May decided to become PM. Philip told the presenters he “never heard Theresa say she wanted to be prime minister until she was well established in the shadow cabinet”.May had her first shadow cabinet role in June 1999, and naturally this was picked up on particularly by political commentators.
Woah, Philip May reveals that Theresa 1st decided when she was in 'the SHADOW Cabinet' that she wanted to be PM.

Most politically interesting thing Philip May said was @theresa_may became ambitious to be prime minister when she joined shadow cabinet

Ever a hot topic when it comes to the Prime Minister, the presenters of course also asked about May’s shoes.
Theresa May: "I like my shoes. It gives me a reason for going and buying some more." Great quote

Not everyone was pleased with this line of questioning of course, in fact it may have been mocked a little bit.
That's it. I'https://t.co/xsW059UcGh Conservative. May likes shoes. #TheOneShow

The discussion did pull out an interesting story from May however. She said she once met a woman in the lift at the House of Commons who said it was the Tory leader’s shoes which inspired her to get into politics – a story which drew a lot of reaction.
Can the woman who was inspired into politics by Theresa May's shoes step forward please

Theresa May says a young woman went into politics because 'she liked my shoes.'
