Is it a wall or a fence? Sean Spicer insists the Trump administration is building a wall

Sean Spicer made use of PowerPoint again in a tense exchange with journalists about funding for Donald Trump’s flagship policy: the border wall.

After a question from Breitbart’s White House correspondent, Charlie Spiering, about funding for the wall, the White House press secretary thanked him for “the opportunity to show you some things” and promptly brought up a collection of photos of the current border with Mexico.

Gesturing to the photos, he said: “This is the kind of barrier that exists right now in our country.” He also quoted a report which said that from 2010 to 2015, 9,287 breaches of pedestrian fencing were made, costing an average of $780 to mend each time.

Next, he brought up a selection of example photos showing how $341m of funding would help replace the current “border fencing”, something which has been restricted by Democrats in the upcoming budget.

You would be forgiven for thinking those photos look suspiciously like fences rather than walls, and that’s exactly what Spiering came back with, asking: “Are those photos of fences or walls?”Spicer hit back, gesturing at the photos saying: “That is called a bollard wall. That is called a levee wall.”

Another journalist fired back: “It’s not the wall the President promised.”“What I’m telling anybody is that the President said he was going to build the wall and he’s doing it, and he’s using the best technology,” Spicer retorted.
