Public proposals are a pretty common sight at American sporting events, and at Boston Red Sox games in particular – and they usually have a happy ending.
On Sunday, though, the public was quick to spot what appeared to be a rare unsuccessful marriage proposal at Fenway Park.

According to people who were present, the big screen showed the start of a proposal as the Red Sox took on the Chicago Cubs. But there was no “she said yes” moment and no hug – and the camera reportedly turned away as the couple had an animated conversation.
The scoreboard proposal at Fenway may have just gone awry. There was no hug, the camera cut away and the crowd groaned.

Indeed, according to reports, the crowd actually started chanting “she said no”.

Sports fans can be so cruel. Here’s hoping there’s more to the story than meets the eye and there’s still a happy ending for this pair. But as some on Twitter pointed out, if this incident discourages other people from a big-screen proposal, it might not be such a bad thing.
Kudos to the woman who drew a line in the sand and said no to the proposal at Fenway. Let this be the beginning of the end for this.
