It takes a huge level of trust to leave your home in the hands of strangers, even if you’re getting money in return, and one Islington resident might just have had theirs broken.

That’s after a reported 200 people crammed into a one-bedroom flat for an all-night rave last weekend with a DJ and professional sound system, leading one neighbour to tell the Islington Gazette: “It sounded like Fabric was upstairs.”

The residents of Grosvenor Avenue had a very difficult night, with the next-door neighbour describing the ravers as like a “football crowd” and complaining of fights in the street.

Police and the council were called but due to an “aggressive” crowd the officers couldn’t do anything except stand outside for hours, the paper reports. Neighbours reported a bouncer at the door turning anyone without a ticket away, and described a surreal scene when the music finally switched off at 6am. “They must have been standing on top of each other in there – it’s a one-bedroom flat. It was like Alice in Wonderland watching them come out,” the next-door neighbour said. The council reportedly contacted the owner, who had been in Vietnam.
