Paris Fashion Week has just drawn to a close, and by now we’re well used to seeing androgynous outfits hitting the runway. Now, gender fluidity is migrating from high fashion to the high street as H&M has launched a unisex denim collection.
The collection is called Denim United, and features everything from jackets and overalls to jeans and shorts.
Don’t expect anything particularly risque from the collection, which falls firmly in the normcore, wearable side of fashion (and who doesn’t need another grey hoodie?)
It might not seem like a huge move, but we’re really digging how it’s becoming more commonplace for gender boundaries to be blurred in popular culture. The day after International Women’s Day, there’s still a lot to be done in the fight for gender equality, but this is still a brilliant move towards acceptance and an even playing field – even if just in fashion.
It also helps that the photoshoot for Denim United is seriously beautiful – talk about denim goals.
H&M spokeswoman Marybeth Schmitt says of the collection: “It is very natural for us to launch a unisex collection as fashion is constantly evolving and intersecting and today we see there are no boundaries in democratic style. Fashion should always be inclusive.” Preach it.
Denim United will be available on hm.com on March 23, so go forth and enjoy androgynous denim. However we warn you: Please, please don’t be *that* couple and don matching jeans. A surefire way to lose friends fast.
