Armed with a whiteboard Edd Dracott took to the streets at London Fashion Week to persuade attendees to reveal their clothing secrets. Whether it’s a dress covered in children’s toys, a surgical mask with the word “idiosyncrasy” written across it or a pair of glasses made of pipe cleaners, there is nothing people won’t wear. That’s a lesson you learn after about five minutes on the street at London Fashion Week and it begs the question – what clothing could embarrass a fashionista? I spoke with some of London Fashion Week’s stylish attendees to find out.

Goro Nozoe, 20 – Hot booty shorts

(PA)

Goro, a student, said he simply “can’t wear” the super-short hot pants. I’m inclined to agree, but you keep being you Goro.

Canyon Crochet, 18 – Latex suit

(PA)

Another student, Canyon originally said it was “probably” the “theatrical” shirt he picked up from a vintage store which he is wearing above. After remembering he owns a latex suit he, reasonably, changed his mind.

Alex Miller, 24 – Granny pants

(PA)

“I’m not going to lie to you they’re comfortable and I love them, but they are embarassing,” said Alex, who works in stylist communications. Top marks must be given for the frilly illustration.

Sophie Cochevelou, 26 – “Winy the poo pyjama”

(PA)

We’re going to assume Sophie is talking about nightwear with a motif of a bear who loves honey on it, here. “My boyfriend hates it but I like to wear them in winter,” said the costume designer.

Abraham Owafowakan, 22 – Loafers

(PA)

“They don’t look good on my feet and I feel uncomfortable wearing them,” the graphic designer said. Well reasoned Abraham.

Recklezz Primo, 19 – “Huarache trainers”

(PA)

In case you’re a bit confused by what the above words mean, this guy’s a musician and he does not like his pair of Nike trainers.

Kala Kala, 51 – Pyjamas

(PA)

Kala Kala is a bit of a celebrity on Instagram and when asked what he does said “express myself”. He initially scorned the idea you could be embarrassed by clothing – but not when it comes to pyjamas. “It’s not my thing but sometimes when it gets to winter you just have to wear them,” he said. Amen to that Kala.

Marie Weidlich, 29 – “Fifty Shades Of Grey inspired leather corset”

(PA)

Marie, a fashion journalist, clearly wasn’t intimidated by the question for a second. She said she “thought about” wearing it to Fashion Week but decided – in the end – it was too much.

Magda Durka, 32 – Primark T-shirt

(PA)

Despite her choice, the fashion designer and style reporter did marvel that some of her old T-shirts are “still alive” after 10 years of use.

Naddy Sane, 26 – Shag bands

(PA)

Naddy has come up with a corker here – who remembers these old playground favourites? The unfortunately named bands were brightly coloured and made of rubber but they’re an old fad which the fashion stylist is embarrassed by now.

Amber Mulcahy, 18 – Rainbow glove socks

(PA)

Yes, they are the socks which show off each individual toe in all the colours of the rainbow. Students will do anything to save money on the heating bill though – so we think she can be forgiven.

Rowben Caution, 16 – “This cape”

(PA)

Young photographer Rowben here has pretty shrewdly summed up Fashion Week with his decision. The most embarrassing item of clothing he owns is the one he wears to the shows and in a crowd of similarly free-spirited and expressively-dressed peers, no-one bats an eyelid. If ever there was a place to open up about the clothes you don’t want people to know about – this is it.
