We’re well up for experimenting with new beauty trends, but every so often one comes along that we’re just not sure we could try out – as good as it might end up looking.

The latest trend to make us cringe is eyelash tattoos, which involve getting a tattoo along the base of your lashes. This creates the effect of permanent eyeliner, which is meant to make your eyelashes seem thicker and more even.

So why would you get your eyelashes tattooed? Well, according to New York, LA and Miami-based The Eyebrow Doctor, it creates “the illusion of thicker, darker, and completely full lashes without looking lined or like obvious make-up.” Sounds pretty good to us.

The best thing about the treatment is that it’ll last between three and five years, which would save you a lot of time, money and effort applying make-up every day.

The less than ideal thing is that it takes about four weeks to heal, and there are “mixed reviews on pain” – some people say it tickles, whereas for others it’s more painful. Itching is also apparently normal in the week after the treatment, which is not really what you want as you go about your day-to-day life.

The Eyebrow Doctor says “lash enhancement is great for everyone”, but we’re not entirely sure it’d be a good choice for anyone who’s a bit iffy around needles.

If you’re a brave soul and truly dedicated to the noble cause of banging eyelashes, you can head over to the Eyebrow Doctor from March. If you’re a wuss like us, it might be best to hold on to your liquid eyeliner for now.
