Madeleine Albright – the first women to become US Secretary of State – is nearly 80 years old and shows no sign of slowing down. Now, she has taken to Twitter to tell the world that she is prepared to register as Muslim in response to US President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish. I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity.

This comes after reports that Trump is planning to sign an executive order suspending refugee admissions to the US for a certain period of time. It is also looking likely that he will sign another order stopping people from Muslim countries entering the US on visas (reportedly including Sudan, Iran and Libya). It is also reported that Trump has already signed an order to move forward with building a wall between the US and Mexico – showing he’s not wasting any time to make good on the immigration promises he made on his presidential campaign trail. But Albright – who moved to the US when she was 11 – isn’t having any of it. She is a supporter of Hillary Clinton, and has been extremely vocal in her support of the refugees.
There is no fine print on the Statue of Liberty. America must remain open to people of all faiths & backgrounds. #RefugeesWelcome pic.twitter.com/4LvMiZTRJJ

And her pledge to register as Muslim in a show of support has struck a chord with many people.

Indicative of how divided a country the US currently is, not everyone was on board with Albright’s sentiment, but we appreciate her show of solidarity nonetheless.
