Search #yoga on Instagram and you’ll find more than 25 million photos vying for your attention.
Social media has almost certainly changed the way we view and do yoga and is leading the way towards digital fitness inspiration goals.
One blogger and yoga practitioner recently spoke about the rise of a new breed of “insta yogis” in one of her posts, describing them as “generally slim, beautiful (male or female), freak-show-level bendy and seemingly exist on a diet of kale smoothies”.
But you have to admit, those #yogaeverydamnday photos look stunning and here’s your definitive guide on how to master this new social media cliche:
1. Look for dangerous locations to get into your favourite jaw-dropping postures
2. Find a railway track to perfect your downward dog skills
3. Get a professional photographer to bring out the best in you
4. Find other yogis to do some acrobatic yoga
5. Find a picturesque poolside location to do your inversions
6. Or even better, do it on a paddle board
7. Look for a really popular tourist spot to channel your yogi spirit
8. And remember, beaches make great backgrounds, especially during sunsets
9. Make sure you show off those contortionist type poses
10. You could also dabble in naked yoga (although Instagram has very strict policies on the kind of flesh you can show)
11. Try #wineandyoga poses, if you want to appeal to the cool types
12. Make sure you have an #yogaabs selfie in your feed
13. Also, don’t forget to include as many yoga-related hashtags as possible
14. Find a yoga partner so you can make your photos look more interesting
15. And finally, don’t forget to name drop what you are wearing
