Political cartoons are supposed to make you stop, laugh and then cry a bit at how real it is – which is *kinda* what this one for the New Yorker is doing.
Cartoonist Will McPhail drew a scene on a plane where an average, inexperienced-looking guy stands up and convinces all the other passengers that he’d be better equipped to be in control of the thing that’s keeping them in the air.
One from this week's @NewYorker. Hello politics, my names Will. pic.twitter.com/5LfNYnOgMA

Now while that does sound familiar, many people aren’t convinced what it infers is entirely accurate.
@WillMcPhail @NewYorker then again politics have no fixed qualification unlike pilots. So dis satire is stupid…

@WillMcPhail @NewYorker absolute nonsense, and scarily anti-democratic. Government isn't like flying a plane

@WillMcPhail @NewYorker this assumes politicians have a very special skill set, and our best interests in mind, like a pilot. I don't buy it

Well, except a pilot actually tangibly delivers exactly what he promised me (taking me to my destination) every single time I fly https://t.co/eBx31YqPyc

A more accurate cartoon would be a bunch of people forced to vote between two pilots that aren't taking anyone where they want to go, where

Some have even seen it as an attack on anti-establishment Bernie Sanders.
@WillMcPhail @michaelshure @NewYorker I believe this is an attack against @SenSanders supporter's as well

However, there are also lots of people who think it’s great.
@bobtrose1 How? No one argued that Sanders was incapable or unqualified. Even those of us who weren't for him didn't challenge his ability.

.@WillMcPhail @NewYorker My husband, a commercial airline pilot, says this is painfully accurate.
— Aviatrixt (@Aviatrixt) January 2, 2017
@yudi15 This cartoon is correct. Trump is unqualified to lead us.

Perfectly describes 2016 logic, where expertise counts against the qualified people instead of in favour… https://t.co/VOsd7TRPwg

Poor Will, Twitter can be a scary place.
@bloggerheads Actually I'm gonna leave, I don't like it here.
