Watch this: Atlanta, Saturday November 5 on FOX
BRACE yourselves, because here comes another excellent new TV show for you to series link this winter: offbeat, rap-music-themed comedy drama Atlanta.
Created by and starring Grammy nominated musician, actor and comedian Donald Glover (Community, The Martian), this excellent 'existential comedy' chronicles the exploits of two cousins as they attempt to get ahead in their titular native city's music game.
Underachieving college drop-out Earn (Glover) is scraping by while supporting his unconventional family unit as a salesman when he spots a once in a lifetime opportunity to finally put his wits to good use: his cousin, Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry, Boardwalk Empire), is just starting to gain some traction in the local hip-hop scene where he goes by the name Paper Boi.
Earn thinks he can manage Alfred into the big-time – but first he's got to try and reconnect with the rhyme-handy relative he hasn't seen in years, not to mention figuring out how to check his cousin's dangerous tendency to act before/without thinking.
The latter trait gets Alfred and his spaced-out wingman, Darius (Lakeith Lee Stanfield, Straight Outta Compton) into all manner of scrapes, some of which threaten to kill him and his music career before it's even begun.
Smartly written, well acted and funny with it, Atlanta is a must for all hip-hop heads and fans of good comedy alike.
