HAVING made the jump from Channel 4 to Netflix, all six brand new episodes of Black Mirror's third series are now available for streaming.

With bigger budgets and twice as many stories to enjoy, C4's loss is our gain as Charlie Brookers' excellent sci-fi infused TV drama anthology continues to offer us chillingly plausible 'what if?' glimpses of our near future alongside more off-the-wall offerings in the manner of a 21st century Twilight Zone.

Directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) and starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve, series opener Nosedive is a darkly funny and perhaps worryingly prescient satire of a society in which every human interaction is based around an all-powerful online rating system which determines people's social status, popularity and employability.

Another stand-out story from the new series is alternate reality-themed instalment San Junipero, which begins in 1987 when shy outsider Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis from Halt & Catch Fire) is befriended by party girl Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) in the titular Californian seaside town.

However, the oddly movie set-perfect San Junipero is not what it seems – and neither are its fun-loving inhabitants.

Viewers will likely burn through these and the other four episodes in a single week, but the good news is that the next series of Black Mirror is already on the way, with Jodie Foster among the talent signed up to direct.
