DANIEL O’Donnell fans in Donegal are asking their neighbours in Derry to support their favourite singer on their behalf.

A sign posted near the border asks Derry ‘muckers’ to vote for Daniel on Strictly Come Dancing because “he’s pure sound” and Donegal folks “canny vote dune ere”.

Peter McLaughlin, who owns Donegal Signs, said that there has been a big response to the sign, posted in Muff, Donegal.

Peter married a woman from Glenullin, Co Derry and said that now he promotes “Donegal at every opportunity just for the craic”.

"Normally it's the Donegal team involved but Daniel is stealing the limelight this year," he said.

He had previously met the singer after the 2012 All-Ireland final and described him as "Donegal through and through".

The singer from Kincasslagh, Donegal is currently preparing for week three of Strictly Come Dancing with dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast yesterday, Daniel thanked many "very loyal" fans from the south, who go to the effort of crossing the border to vote for him.

His wife, Majella, also took to Twitter to thank all of Daniel's fans for their support.

The pair survived the competition's first elimination after dancing the Charleston to Let's Misbehave.

O'Donnell appears to have impressed not only with his fancy footwork, but his Charleston facial expressions.

It was revealed that Daniel and Kristina are to perform the Cha Cha to Summer Nights from Grease in this Saturday's live show.
