Plans have been unveiled for a £17million investment by Groening Developments Limited for a high-quality residential development in Cultra, on the edge of Holywood in Co Down.

The developer is currently undertaking community consultation, which has included a public information event held recently in the Culloden Hotel, in advance of submitting a full planning application to Ards and North Down Borough Council.

The exclusive housing development, called Merchant’s Gate, proposes 41 dwellings, comprised by a mixture of large detached homes, cottages style townhouses and apartments.

The development would meanwhile support an estimated 40 jobs in the construction sector.

Commenting on the scheme, Michael Bell of Groening Developments Limited said:

“The Cultra area of Holywood is one of Northern Ireland’s most attractive residential locations. The Merchant’s Gate development will seek to build on that. Whilst there is clearly demand for family homes, there is also strong demand within the downsizing market so our proposals respond to that by providing a mixture of detached, cottage style townhouses and apartments.

“The site sits within the natural contours of the local landscape in the northern foothills of the Holywood Hills. Our design team has taken great care to ensure that the proposed layout respects existing dwellings in the area as well as improving the local landscape and environment, particularly through extensive additional tree planting and the creation of an arboretum.’’

“I firmly believe the plans represent the most appropriate use of this beautiful site. The development represents a significant private investment that will also support local jobs in the construction industry. We are looking forward to making progress in the coming months and hope, subject to planning, to be on site in early 2019.’’
