Now decorating at Easter time is almost as popular as decking the halls at Christmas, the high street and online shops are hopping with the kit and finishing touches to help you set the scene.

For full-on fun, which will please youngsters, get cracking with playful yellow details, from chickens to eggs for that hunt, or simply follow nature’s lead with rooms blossoming with flowers, green touches and the odd spring critter. Alternatively, opt for classic Skandi-country, with grown-up greys and subtle style that pays a playful nod to the festivities.

CHEEP & CHEERY

“Yellow - the colour synonymous with chicks and daffodils - is such a versatile colour, and can be easily incorporated into your interiors for a simple spring update which will last beyond the season,” says Rebecca Henchey, a buyer for Sainsbury’s Home.

“Stylish and contemporary, the shade can be paired with pretty pastel tones for a vibrant update to a classic Scandi look, with rich blues or earthy shades for a bold statement, or with fresh white for classic simplicity.”

EASTER TOUCHES: Raid Sainbury’s stores for kit that won’t break the bank but could be perfect for an Easter table or egg hunt trail: Outsize Bunny Pawprints, £3 for pack of three; Easter Egg Hunt Kit, £4; Bunny or Chick Basket, £5; Bunny Lawn Stakes, £10; and a Happy Easter Plaque, £6 (sainsburys.co.uk).

I particularly like Emma Bridgewater’s Personalised Yellow Wallflower china range: Teapots from £34.95; Half-pint mugs, from £19.95; Vase, from £29.95, and Plates from £17.95 - which could give a real lift to an Easter tea table (emmabridgewater.co.uk).

If you’re really hoppin’ mad about the season, set a scene with a Sketch Hare vinyl wall mural, £29 per square metre, Pixers (pixersize.com). Dobbies stores are bursting with Easter bargains, including a pretty artificial heart-shaped Spring Wreath £14.99; Stone Rabbits £16.99 each, and Egg Decorations, £4.99 for a pack of six.

SEASONAL SNIP: Set Of Three Easter Carrot Decorations, £5, The Contemporary Home (tch.net), and yellow Egg Candles by Mouse House Interiors, £6.50, The Emporium Somerset (theemporiumsomerset.co.uk).

GREEN SHOOTS

“Bringing nature-inspired elements into decor represents spring and Easter perfectly,” says Clotilde Passalacqua, interior design leader at Ikea (ikea.com). “Turn your table into an Easter spectacular for friends with an abundance of soft pastel shades, textiles featuring spring blooms as a design, and display fresh flowers and green foliage. Why not hang pretty bunting over a table to finish a look?

“Woven mats, baskets and untreated wood will harmonise well with this look.”

EASTER TOUCHES: Ramp up fresh style with accessories featuring egg designs. We Love Cushions has a Rows Of Speckled Eggs Cushion, £29.99 (welovecushions.co.uk), while Talking Tables’ Mix & Match Green Bunny, £6.99, is delightful (talkingtables.co.uk).

Just for fun, pop an egg-filled Faux Pussy Willow Nest, £8, Sainsbury’s Home, on a tabletop or use as a centrepiece (sainsburys.co.uk). What could be more appropriate than egg candles? Duck Eggs, £7.50 a pair, and Goose Eggs, £12.95 a pair, from Nordic House (nordichouse.co.uk).

SEASONAL SNIP: For cuteness, it’s hard to beat a Peter Rabbit Eggcup & Spoon, shaped like a bucket and spade, £17, JD Williams Home (jdwilliams.co.uk).

COUNTRY COOL

“A rustic look is becoming more and more fashionable as we focus on natural materials, textures and colour tones, and this works beautifully for Easter if you complement it with country-style decorative touches,” says David Tetlow at LightBulbs Direct (lightbulbs-direct.com).

“With the days getting longer and the nights warmer, it’s lovely to be able to take festivities outdoors and continue long after the egg hunt is over. String a garland of decorative coloured lights on an outdoor wall or between trees, to conjure a lovely twinkling glow for a garden gathering.”

EASTER TOUCHES: If you love a calm, sophisticated neutral palette, you probably won’t want to get down with the kids and coat the house in plastic and pastels, even if it is just for the holiday. Luckily, it’s perfectly possible to mark the event with subtle, easy-on-the-eye decor details. Pixers triumph yet again with a soft grey, white and pink Hares & Herbs wall mural, which could make an impact on a feature wall. From £29 per square metre (pixersize.com).

Cox & Cox, one of my favourite companies for stylish, stunning homeware, has all the essential items for a Scandinavian-style Easter tree. Arrange a few branches in a large vase, and hang with its Six Pastel Hanging Eggs, £9.50; Four Gold Bunny Tags, £3.50, and Four Hanging Textured Eggs, £16.50 (coxandcox.co.uk). Alternatively, create a striking table centrepiece with a Bucket Of Wooden Eggs, £9.50, and a cluster of Bark Crackers, £32 for four, both from Hedgehog (hedgehogshop.co.uk).

SEASONAL SNIP: Black and white Egg Decorations, £18.95 for set of six, IdyllHome (idyllhome.co.uk).
