WITH company car users firmly in its sights, Volkswagen has added a new plug-in hybrid to the Golf line-up.

The eHybrid Style model has a benefit in kind rate of 7 per cent, which will catch the eye of business users looking to get out of older diesels.

It is priced from £32,995 and joins the more expensive £36,010 GTE plug-in in the Golf family.

It uses a 1.4-litre petrol engine with an electric motor that's powered by a battery that can provide up to a useful 44 miles of electric-only range.

The system has total power of 201bhp and torque of 258lb ft (for comparison, the GTE has 242bhp). The 0-62mph time is 7.4 seconds.

CO2 emissions are rated at 21g/km and the fuel consumption is a claimed 235mpg, though to get anything close to that will require heavy use of the drivetrain's plug-in element.

Standard equipment on the eHybrid Style includes digital instruments, satellite navigation, leather steering wheel, sports seats and adaptive cruise control.
