WITH summer in the air, it is as good a time as any for Mazda to wheel out one of its regular MX-5 specials, writes William Scholes.

Based on the thrashably zippy 130bhp 1.5-litre version of the roadster, the Sport Venture is limited to just 160 examples.

It is finished in fetching 'deep crystal' blue mica paint which contrasts nicely with its grey fabric soft-top and bright 16-inch alloy wheels.

Silver trim has also been applied to the door mirrors and roll hoops.

The colour combination echoes that of an earlier Sport Venture model, which was sold in 2014 and based on the third generation of MX-5.

The 2021 Sport Venture costs £27,615.

For a little more - £27,705 - you could have an R-Sport special edition. It has the same mechanical set-up as the Sport Venture but is painted in 'polymetal grey metallic' and rolls on 16-inch RAYS gunmetal alloys.

It also has some very nice burgundy leather seats with silver stitching, ensuring the interior has the same bespoke feel as the exterior.

The standard line-up of 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre MX-5 models, in soft-top and folding hard-top RF guises, remain on offer.
