NEW engine news for Seat's likeable Tarraco SUV, writes William Scholes.

The company has raided the Volkswagen Group parts bin and pulled out a 242bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol unit, a seven-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox and four-wheel-drive.

It is the most powerful Tarraco yet. Thus equipped, the big seven-seat family SUV can zip from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 142mph.

CO2 emissions are rated at 195g/km, with fuel consumption on the combined cycle quoted as 30.7mpg.

It is offered in FR, FR Sport, Xcellence and Xcellence Lux trims, and is priced from £39,400.
