IT'S a busy time at Hyundai, with a clutch of new models and updates, including a revamp for the i30 family car.

There are some gentle cosmetic changes and new mild-hybrid engines for the core line-up, while the hardcore i30 hot hatch has also been tweaked.

You can tell the latest i30 by its slimmer headlamps and V-shaped LED daytime running lights. There's a new bumper design too, and different 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels.

N Line models look a little more muscular thanks to a new grille, headlamps and 18-inch alloys.

The revised i30 also gets electrified powertrains, including a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a larger 1.5-litre variant.

Both incorporate 48-volt mild-hybrid technology and are available with either a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission.

Safety gadgetry includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking and front collision-avoidance assist.

The range starts at £20,695 for the well-equipped SE Connect model. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The i30 is offered as five-door hatch, sleek Fastbook and estate Tourer. The most expensive version is a Tourer with the 1.6-litre diesel in Premium trim, at £27,445.

Meanwhile, the i30 N gets much the same cosmetic revisions as the rest of the range, though larger exhaust pipes give it an even more aggressive look than before.

New lightweight Alcantara and leather sports seats are also available.

The i30 N's 2.0-litre petrol engine still produces 247bhp in its standard guise, though the N Performance version has had a 5bhp and 29lb ft upgrade, so it now produces 276bhp and 289lb ft of torque.

An eight-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox is offered for the first time, though the excellent six-speed manual remains standard.

Amusingly, however, the automatic includes modes called 'Grin', 'Power' and 'Track Sense'.
