ENVIRONMENTAL concerns have been a persistent theme of Pope Francis's papacy, with his last encyclical, Laudato Si', devoted to the 'care for our common home'.
He isn't someone who appears to be overly bothered about the status of the car he travels in, preferring an old Ford Focus to the Mercedes-Benz that was put at his disposal when he became Pope in 2013.
The latest popemobile to arrive at the Vatican may pique his interest, however.
It's a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai, a gift to the Pope from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan, which emits only water from its exhaust pipe.
Toyota built two of the specially modified Mirai models for the Pope's visit to Japan last November.
It is stretched to 5.1 metres long and measures 2.7m tall, allowing the Pope to stand as he is driven through crowds.
The 'Mirai' - a word that in Japanese means 'future' - is the first mass produced hydrogen-powered car, and was launched in 2014.
If you fancy a Mirai of your own, then you will need to give Toyota around £66,000.
Although you won't get very far as there is nowhere to fill its tank with hydrogen.
However, there are plans to start establishing a network of hydrogen fuel stations by the end of the decade.
It's unclear what the Vatican's hydrogen infrastructure looks like...
