JAGUAR has revealed more information about its new hyper-saloon, the XE SV Project 8 - as featured on these pages previously - ahead of its launch.

Just 300 examples of the 200mph saloon, all of them left-hand-drive, will be built for enthusiasts with deep pockets - the starting price is a fiver shy of £150,000.

The 0-60mph sprint is dispatched in just 3.3 seconds, making the all-wheel-drive Project 8 the fastest accelerating Jaguar yet.

Most of the regular XE's bodywork seems to have binned in favour of bespoke carbon fibre and aluminium panels.

The company's familiar 5.0-litre V8 supercharged has been honed into its most potent form yet, with 592bhp and 516lb.ft, and the suspension has been heavily overhauled to cope with the car's power and uncompromising demeanour.

The Project 8 is dripping with motorsport tech - it's the first road car to get Formula 1-style silicon nitride ceramic wheel bearings, for example, and the aerodynamics, titanium exhaust system owe more to the track than the daily commute.

John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said that the raison d'être of the team behind the Project 8 was "to produce halo vehicles that push the boundaries in terms of luxury, performance and all-terrain capability".

"Project 8 is a great example of what happens when enthusiastic designers, engineers and manufacturing specialists are given the opportunity to create an extreme performance sports car without compromise," he said.

"Project 8 will be assembled by hand in the new SVO Technical Centre, and we're confident that our enthusiastic and demanding clients will love driving Project 8 as much we do."
