Audi's hottest hatch gets hotter

Audi RS3 - even more power, coming soon

ANYONE who has spent time with an Audi RS3 is highly unlikely to step out of it and declare that it is lacking in power and Audi really should try harder.

Quattro four-wheel-drive, a five-cylinder engine with a Nasa-spec turbocharger, a gearbox capable of whipcrack-fast shifts, organ-rearranging brakes and an exhaust note breathed upon by Thor are among the enhancements that transform the humble Audi A3 five-door hatchback or saloon into a genuine supercar botherer.

Still, that hasn't stopped Audi from giving the RS3 a sprinkling of improvements, the most eye-catching of which is an even more pumped up power output.

The 2.5-litre engine now delivers 395bhp - 33bhp more than before - and 354lb-ft of torque; it is also 26kg lighter, thanks to liberal use of aluminium in its construction, and capable of hurling the RS3 from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds.

Northern Ireland order books are due to open in the summer; the current car costs £40,795.
