Petrol in, diesel out for new hot Q5

The new Audi SQ5 swaps the diesel engine of the last car for a petrol unit

THE flagship performance 'S' version of the new Audi Q5 will swap the old car's diesel engine for a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The new SQ5's V6 engine produces 349bhp and 369lb/ft of torque, accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed limited to 155mph.

For comparison, the outgoing car made 335bhp and a mighty 516lb/ft from its twin-turbo 3.0-litre diesel engine, and took 5.1 seconds to get from 0-62mph...

An eight-speed automatic gearbox is the only transmission choice with the new car, driving all four-wheels through a quattro system.

Audi's 'virtual cockpit' digital dashboard is standard on the SQ5, as are adaptive dampers which automatically adjust the suspension depending on road conditions and driving style.

The outgoing car costs £52,300; expect the new SQ5, when it reaches here later in the summer, to cost much the same.
