PRICES of Nissan's new Micra will jump upwards when the new model arrives next year.

The cheapest version of the all-new version of Nissan's small hatchback will cost £11,995, stretching to more than £17,000 for the range-topping Tekna trim level.

Nissan expects the most popular version to be the £14,995 IG-T 90 Acenta.

For comparison, prices of the outgoing Micra run from £7,995 to £13,455.

That car, unlike previous generations of the Micra, has little to recommend it and Nissan will be hopeful that the new version is much more competitive with rivals such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, as well as a clutch of competitors from Mazda, Renault, Kia, Hyundai, Vauxhall and others.

A turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine of 0.9-litre capacity and a 1.5-litre diesel, both with 89bhp, will be offered at launch. A 1.0-litre petrol with 72bhp arrives later.
