The TT that beats up Porsches...

The Audi TT - now with added RS, all the better to humble Porsches and chase supercars

THE latest Audi TT is to get the sort of serious firepower that should humble Porsches as well as supercars when a 395bhp engine is installed under its elegant bonnet to create the new RS version.

As with previous TT RS models, a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine provides motive power.

It's a tremendously charismatic engine, found here in its most potent roadgoing form yet.

Torque is a whopping 354lb/ft, and the TT RS coupe can cover the 0-62mph sprint in 3.7 seconds, with the roadster taking a scant 0.2 seconds longer.

The latest 'organic' LED technology is found in the rear lights and, as you might expect, quattro four-wheel-drive is standard. A seven-speed double-clutch gearbox is also standard, as is Audi's brilliant 'virtual cockpit' digital dashboard.

The TT has been a huge success for Audi, especially in the UK. Almost 50 per cent of all TTs sold in Europe are bought in Britain and Northern Ireland.

Should the idea of the ultimate TT appeal to you, order books open in the summer and the first cars should be delivered by the end of the year. Prices are yet to be announced.
