Renault's Alpine resort
RENAULT has a long and illustrious record of building some of the finest hot hatches, and from time to time it has also sold sports cars under the Alpine banner.
It is set to revive the Alpine name with a new sports car, whose styling riffs off the original Alpine A110 from the late 1960s.
That car was a formidable rally car - it won the 1973 Monte Carlo event - and Alpine says the new car will also be highly driver-focused, suggesting the Porsche Cayman is clearly in its sights.
The specification also shouts as much: rear-wheel-drive, two seats, mid-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, 0-62mph in less than 4.5 seconds...
When the Alpine goes into production, it will look very close to the show car in the picture; sales should start next year.
