RENAULT has a new Megane coming soon to these shores, writes William Scholes.

It promises to be a far more interesting prospect than the current, rather moribund model (can you remember when you last saw one, apart from the desirable RenaultSport version?), and certainly has the visual pizazz to catch the eye of would-be Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus customers.

We have already seen the hatchback version and now Renault has shown us its estate sibling.

Of course, as is the way of things these days, it isn't called an estate but a 'Sport Tourer'.

A sporty GT model will debut at the Geneva motor show next week, and Renault says the Megane Sport Tourer is "spacious and comfortable to accommodate five people" and that it has "a modular interior and vast carrying space".

The GT version gets what Renault calls '4Control' technology, a set of handling and chassis settings which includes four-wheel-steering and the prospect of agile handling.

Other big Renault news includes a new Scenic - despite the relentless march of the crossover and SUV, Renault clearly still believes there is life left in the MPV concept.
