Sporty Subaru in a spin

SUBARU'S engaging BRZ coupe has long been a Drive favourite, because it is basically one of the funnest cars money can buy, writes William Scholes.

Fresh proof of its handling agility - as if it were needed - has now emerged, with the news that the rear-wheel-drive sports car has set a new world record for the tightest 360 degree spin.

At the wheel was stunt driver Alastair Moffatt, who broke the previous 2.5 metre Guinness World Record by 25cm - a feat that is difficult to get your head around when you realise that the BRZ is a computer keyboard longer then 4m.

To break the record, Moffatt had to drive the BRZ at around 30mph towards a lane of cars parked 2.25m apart, perform the manoeuvre and then accelerate to the end of the course.

Moffatt has form when it comes to Guinness World Records, including setting the benchmark for the 'tightest reverse parallel park' and 'tightest parallel park'.

He turned off the BRZ's traction control and disengaged ABS to perform the stunt.

"The Subaru BRZ was the perfect car in which to do it; light, highly manoeuvrable and easy to control," he said.

"It's great to have another record to my name."
