ONE of Drive's favourite family hatchbacks, the Kia Ceed, is getting a mid-life facelift.

There are mild styling changes - the Ceed has always been one of the more handsome cars in its class - and Kia says interior quality and refinement has taken a step forward.

New to the line-up is a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, with either 98bhp or 118bhp. A seven-speed double-clutch gearbox is also now part of the mix.

Bodystyles remain five-door Ceed, three-door Proceed and five-door estate Sportswagon.

Kia is also making the latest safety and driver assistance kit available on the Ceed, with speed limit information, blind spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert among the options.

Multimedia information services, such as live traffic updates, speed camera locations and alerts, local search and weather forecasts can also be specified on the refreshed Ceed as part of a 'Kia Connected Services' package.

Try one of these - or a Mazda 3 - before convincing yourself only a Volkswagen Golf will do...
