VAUXHALL has at last bestowed its excellent 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine on the Insignia, as part of a raft of improvements.
The new unit replaces the current 2.0-litre diesel engines and is priced from £19,534 to £26,114.
Vauxhall expects the 1.6 CDTi ecoFLEX model to catch the eye of fleet managers and company car drivers with its 99g/km CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of 74.3mpg combined.
The Insignia also now gets Vauxhall's 'OnStar' system, which includes a wifi hotspot for up to seven devices, emergency response notification if the airbag deploys and stolen vehicle recovery technology.
It can connect drivers directly with a call centre and provides owners with a personal assistant 24/7.
OnStar is available as standard on Elite, Limited Edition and VXR trims and as a £395 option on other models.
An upgraded multimedia system also brings Apple's CarPlay technology to the Insignia.
