PASSENGERS have been warned of weeks of long delays at Dublin Airport amid staff shortages.

It comes after massive queues through security were reported over the weekend with some travellers missing their flights after waiting for more than two hours.

Passengers have been posting images and videos on social media of the long queues.

DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport, yesterday apologised to those impacted by the long delays, but warned that queues for security were likely to be experienced at peak hours over the days and weeks ahead.

It said employee recruitment could take "several weeks" adding that Covid-19 was having an impact on staffing.

"Like other airports all over Europe, we are currently working extremely hard to ramp up our operation at Dublin Airport after the collapse of international travel over the past two years, including the hiring and training of staff," the DAA said.

"The recruitment, training and background security checks for all staff working at an international airport takes a number of weeks.

"This is happening against a backdrop of growing passenger numbers at Dublin Airport. This is having an impact on the length of time it is taking passengers to get through security, particularly at busy times."

Irish airline Ryanair also advised passengers to arrive at least three and a half hours before their flight in order to pass through security.
