When you rock a new dress, all you really want is compliments and looks of admiration. So when New Yorker Cailey Fiesel found a dead rat sewn into the seam of her new purchase from Zara, safe to say it was a pretty unexpected surprise.

Yes, you read that right – it really is that gross. Fiesel is now taking Zara to court seeking damages for personal injury and emotional distress.

And the court documents make for a pretty disgusting read. Let’s take a look into how it all went down, shall we?

Fiesel first wore the dress in August a few weeks after she bought it in Connecticut. When she got into work, she noticed a “disturbingly pungent odour”. As hard as she tried, she couldn’t seem to escape the nasty smell.

Only the brave should read on, because later in the day she felt a loose string from the dress rubbing against her leg. When she tried to pull it, it wasn’t a loose string but – gulp – the dead rat’s leg.

As you can imagine, she took the dress off pretty sharpish and what did she find? A dead rat firmly sewed into the lining. And she’s got the grim pictures to prove it.

And the horror story doesn’t end there. Fiesel is saying that she soon formed a large rash that was “diagnosed as a rodent-borne disease”.

I think we can all agree that is definitely not what you want when you’re wearing a sassy new outfit.

A spokesperson for Zara told NBC 4 New York the company is investigating, adding: “The brand has stringent quality controls and health and safety standards worldwide that are followed and met in manufacturing, including stitching and pressing.

“We are committed to ensuring that all of our products meet these rigorous requirements.”
