Brighten up this winter
This season, the only dull thing about autumn is the weather. We take a look at some hot colours for colder autumn days, courtesy of West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK.
Belfast FASHIONWEEK returns from October 15-18 with its busiest and best schedule to date as Northern Ireland’s biggest fashion event celebrates its twentieth season. Get ready for three nights of catwalk shows and this season there’s a whole host of special additional events to mark in your diary too. Fashionistas should prepare for a week of complete fashion frenzy as Sushi Saturday and Style Sunday return to the line-up together with a Fashion Souk, a new menswear show and a unique To Be Beautiful Body Image Symposium.
Colour block rocks this autumn and with so many shades, textures and shapes to choose from, there’s truly no excuse to miss out on making a seasonal statement. Taking inspiration from the incredible A/W15 collections of Prada, Sibling and Versace, colour will be abundant on the BFW runway – from both the high street stores and the local boutiques and designers. From crimson reds to lime greens and bright yellows there’s a palette or hue to suit every skin tone and hair colour.
FASHIONWEEK director Cathy Martin tells us what to expect from the new trend: “Fashion fans should prepare for a stunning palette of winter brights, particularly oranges and pinks, and these will be used a lot in modern, graphic prints as well as in bold, block colours.”
Bubbly blondes will look pretty in pink with this stunning fur coat, right, from designer boutique, Diamond Dolls. Or for ravishing red heads, this 70s-inspired golden dress from Spoilt Belle Boutique is the perfect party dress for the festive season. Paul Smith at Excelclothing.com, meanwhile, offers a warm and cute colour block knit which is both practical and on trend.
Coloured accessories abound with plenty of capes, shoes, snoods to hoods, as well as faux fur, and leather bags in the mix. A FASHIONWEEK favourite for the season ahead is the gorgeous orange snake shopper from George at ASDA – an absolute steal at £14.
For the more daring stylista, designer Gordon Donaldson’s fabulous blood orange two-piece (WomenTalk cover image) will really turn heads, especially when paired with a stunning piece of jewellery.
This season’s fashion really is proof that you can be bright and beautiful no matter what the weather. From bold winter knits to rainbow coloured booties, you’ll be glad to know that anything goes.
