What would be do without superheroes?

Of course, I don't mean the likes of Hulk or Thor, you can keep those guys.

I mean, the wonderful, kind people who live among us who step up when someone else is in need.

I don't know about you but personally, I know I would be stuck in a supermarket car park, broke down, with a dead battery, two kids in the back seat and a boot full of defrosting shopping.

Having returned from holiday to an empty fridge, the McConville's had jumped in the car and off we went to stock up on a few essentials.

We had called into the Asda in Downpatrick and as James had fallen asleep in the back seat, Darren offered to stay in the car with him leaving Abbie and myself to go and do the shopping.

Around 30 minutes later we returned and loaded the groceries into the boot.

I then got into the car - which was perfectly fine when I left it - and turned the key in the ignition but nothing happened.

I then tried again and again but nothing.

At the same time, the battery light was flashing on my dash.

So, Darren got out and opened the bonnet but that's as far as his knowledge with cars goes.

So, there we were, two kids in the back - Abbie distressed that she would never see her home again - and me trying to take deep breaths.

Darren then said he was going to run into Halfords to see if they had any advice.

To my surprise he returned a few minutes later with a Halfords worker called Glenn who had a little jump start kit with him.

Unfortunately however, this didn't work but Glenn was not to be deterred.

He then went into full superhero mode by flagging down a friend he seen driving into the car park and asked him to park his bonnet nose to nose with mine.

Glenn then ran back to Halfords and like a white knight on two wheels, returned on a bike with an even bigger jump start kit.

Between his efforts and those of his friend, our car was restarted and we were saved.

And as quickly as he arrived, Glenn was off again into the evening on his trusty Halfords bike, back to work, having done us a tremendous deed.

With two young children in the back of the car, and with no one to call nearby, we really were stuck.

Thanks to Glenn for his wonderful, selfless efforts.

He didn't need to help us, we weren't customers and he was under no obligation.

I'm guessing he did it because he is a kind person.

Well done Halfords for having such brilliant staff, who are happy to go that extra mile to help others.

Isn't Jennifer Lopez one lucky lady?

Not only did the `Jenny from the Block' singer look absolutely stunning last week when she celebrated her 50th birthday, but her amazing fiance, Alex Rodriguez gifted her a red Porsche - as you do.

Videos released by A-Rod on YouTube showed him plotting with his and J Lo's children to decide what to buy the 50-year-old.

The couple were then photographed as he blindfolded her before gifting her the car at their house in Miami.

The couple later celebrated in lavish style with a huge party at Gloria Estefan's Star Island home.

Nicely done A-Rod

Competition

It’s the new movie everyone is talking about, so how do you fancy winning tickets to see Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, courtesy of Movie House Cinemas?

Described as "a heady, engrossing, kaleidoscopic, spectacularly detailed nostalgic splatter collage of a film” Once Upon A Time in Hollywood takes us on a ride back in time.

Set in 1969 Los Angeles, at a time when everything is changing, the movie tells the story of TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his long time stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they make their way around an industry they hardly recognise any more.

Despite his career having not amounted to his ambition, Dalton acknowledges that it is the end of the 1960s, and the Hollywood spirit will live on.

The movie features a large ensemble cast, including Margot Robbie, Al Pacino and Kurt Russell, and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age
