THE 10th annual Procession to the Tall Cross of Clonoe in Tyrone, in honour of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, will be celebrated on Monday September 17 after the weekly Novena, which begins at 7.30pm.

The Tall Cross of Clonoe is a slightly smaller copy of the Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park under which Pope Francis recently celebrated Mass with and for hundreds of thousands of people from all over Ireland and beyond.

The Cross is lit up at night, making a distinctive silhouette against the darkness of the sky.

Parish priest Canon Benny Fee said the annual procession "honours the Cross of Christ, the great sign of God's love for the world and the bridge between God and his people".

"Pilgrims on the procession are given a paper cross to carry, on which they write the initials of people they know and love who carry the heavy cross of sickness, disability, addiction, family concerns and so on, on their road of life," he said.
