St Columba's Church to glow with first ever Christmas Tree Festival

LET There Be Light is the theme of a new four day Christmas Tree Festival taking place in east Belfast.

St Columba's Parish Church, Knock will host the event from November 24 to 27.

The late Victorian church will showcase 50 very different and intriguing trees, each reflecting a theme and message relevant to Christmas which has been inspired by the Old and New Testaments, hymns, well-known bishops and saints.

Representing spiritual themes such as the miracles, the Magi, creation and prayer, other thought-provoking concepts include the Tree of Dreams, the Rejection Tree, the Polar Express and the Party Tree. The specially themed Christmas trees have been designed and created by parish organisations, individuals, schools, churches and the East Belfast Business community.

The Christmas Tree Festival aims to raise money for St Columba's refurbishment fund and visitors can also enjoy a range of musical interludes, refreshments in the church hall and festive craft stalls stocking a range of produce and gift ideas.

The Rector of St Columba's, the Reverend Canon John R Auchmuty said it was a huge joy and privilege to host the festival.

"It's a really exciting way for us to connect with the local community. We are very grateful for all the invaluable support we have received from local schools and businesses and we hope the event helps bring together families and friends to have fun and celebrate all that is positive in the world," he said.

The festival begins with a special launch event on November 24 at 7pm featuring a seasonal music programme delivered by Indiana, US-based, Canterbury School which is touring Northern Ireland.
