ST BRIGID'S LECTURE: St Brigid's Parish in Belfast will be hosting its annual St Brigid's Day Lecture on Saturday.

This year's speaker is Dr Edward Sri, a lay theologian and author, as well as a much in demand Catholic speaker.

He holds a doctorate from the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome and lives, with his wife and seven children, in Colorado in the United States.

Dr Sri will give two talks which promise to be highly practical: Living Pope Francis's Joy of the Gospel and the Year of Mercy; and Vibrant faith in a secular culture - today's challenge to parents, teachers, and laity.

:: The St Brigid's Day Lecture will take place at St Brigid's Parish Centre, 38 Derryvolgie Avenue, Belfast, on Saturday February 6 from 1pm.

TOURISM: A new 'cultural tourism' guided holiday tracing the history and global contribution of Ulster Presbyterians has been launched.

The six-day tour from September 26 to October 1 this year will visit key areas of significance including Belfast, Ards and north Down, Derry and Donegal, the Giant's Causeway and Glens of Antrim, the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh and east Antrim and the Sixmilewater Valley.

It is organised by Heritage Experience, which has also acquired the rights to the BBC Northern Ireland series An Independent People and packaged it in a triple DVD set with a booklet.

SUICIDE SUPPORT: The annual day of prayer held every Ash Wednesday in Tobar Mhuire Retreat House, Crossgar, will be dedicated this year to those who have lost ones through suicide.

It is an opportunity for people to gather in solidarity with and for support for all who have been affected by this tragedy.

The day, marked on February 10 this year, begins with an opening prayer service at 10am, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day.

It will conclude with an evening prayer service at 7.30pm that will be addressed by Philip McTaggart, director of Mindskills and founder of the suicide support group PIPS.

Brian McKee, retreat director at Tobar Mhuire said: "Following the death of a loved one through suicide, people are often left confused and coping with a whole range of emotions.

"Time may help to heal some of the hurt, but a lingering feeling of loss remains. We invite people to take time to remember their loved ones by joining us in prayer or by enjoying the beautiful grounds at Tobar Mhuire."
