Journey’s End Winemaker’s Stellenbosch Reserve Chardonnay 2020, South Africa, £12 M&S

Stellenbosch is home to South Africa’s finest wines, including world-class Chardonnays filled with freshness, balance and elegance. This sample has a ripe nose of honeysuckle, followed by vanilla, peaches, almond and tropical fruits with nice oak and refreshing acidity keeping the flavours vibrant. In terms of Chardonnay, this is up there with the best of the them in this price range.

Graffigna Reserve Malbec, Argentina, £7,50 (was £9), Sainsbury’s

Argentinian Malbec has recently become a world favourite due to the characteristics that the high altitude climate and soils impart to the fruit. Originally from France, this grape is rarely planted there anymore after finding better growing conditions in the mountains of Argentina. This is a medium-bodied, appealing dry red wine with strong flavours of dark fruits on the nose and palate.
